Raw Food Chick's Holiday Newsletter                                          December 2008
Greetings!

The Holidays are rapidly approaching with warp speed,  can you believe it?  This has always been my favorite time of year for so many reasons, the songs,  the lights, the hustle and bustle, the way that everyone is just a little bit nicer,  and of course, the FOOD!

But I also love this time of year because it reminds me to take pause and be filled with gratitude for all the gifts in each of our lives.

The gift of love.  Where would we be without our children,  Mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers.  Spouses, sisters, brothers. nieces, nephews. Families, friends, teammates, colleagues, and acquaintances....and our furry and feathered friends.

The gift of life.

The gift of health.

The gift of freedom.

The gift of laughter.

The gift of bountiful food.

The gift of comfort.

The gift of making a difference.

The gift of smiling - try it - you will get a smile back For FREE!!!

The gift of time - sometimes the hardest thing to do but it is always the most rewarding.  Economic challenges this year will not stop us from giving the best gift of all,  spending time with our loved ones.  You can also help a friend or neighbor in need, offer babysitting or pet sitting.  How about stopping by and chatting for a few minutes with  someone who might not have family in town or has lost a loved one.

Each of you come with your own humor, uniqueness,  joy and love.  You are the perfect Priceless gift, but don't be surprised how wonderful you feel by sharing your time with others.

Last but not least, on my list of gifts is each of YOU!!!  I am truly blessed and grateful our lives have touched.  Have joyful holiday season and savor every magical moment along the way.

Be Well,

The Pomegranate

Pom

Ready to deck the halls?

If any fruit was made for the holiday season, it is the pomegranate.  That deep red color just makes you think of warmth and joy and celebration.

Decorations don't have to be complicated. Displaying pomegranates in a glass bowl makes a striking seasonal statement. Rubbing the fruit with a little oil will give them a beautiful shine.

Pomegranates are easily dried. Select the freshest available fruit and space wide apart on a wire rack so that they get plenty of air circulation. Leave for several weeks. Dried whole pomegranates last for months, making beautiful year-round decorations.

How can you resist: red looks fabulous with deep green foliage, pears, nuts and just about everything else you might use for holiday decorations. Go ahead: unleash your inner creativity and have fun with some new decorating ideas.

Not just another pretty face

The pomegranate is not only beautiful to look at but it is delicious to eat and loaded with health benefits.  Pomegranates are an excellent source of Vitamin C.

In addition, the pomegranate is rich in polyphenols, some of the most powerful of the antioxidants. And there's more: each seed provides a satisfying crunch and a bit of fiber in every bite.

Besides its beauty, scientists say the leathery-skinned fruit with the sweet-tart juice may help with heart disease, cancer and problems associated with aging.  Add them to your salads for an extra zip or juice them for a refreshing drink. You can get approximately 3 cups of juice per 6 pomegranates.

When selecting pomegranates, look for color, size and general appearance.  Pick  up the fruit, the heavier the better, this means they are nice and juicy. Fresh pomegranates are available in stores from October through December. Pick some up today!!!

Warmest Holiday Wishes to you and your loved ones.

Sincerely,

Nancy Broderick
