Greetings!
Happy March from
The Raw Food Chick! Spring is
rapidly approaching the Central
Coast. Yippee!!! It is a time
for all of us to kick up our
heels and move our bodies.
March is named for Mars, the
Roman war God, so you can
probably understand why March
can be a bit belligerent in the
weather department. They say
that March comes in like a lion
and leaves like a lamb, but not
to worry; Spring will officially
arrive on March 20th, just a few
days away.
March is the time of hope and
renewal, of daylight and
springtime, and the promise of
clear skies and warm weather.
The warming and greening of our
surroundings also encourages us
to shift our eating habits from
the heavier winter foods to a
lighter, more cleansing fare.
Incorporating more raw foods
into your life will be a natural
Spring Cleaning for your body.
Try to get out and visit the
Farmer's Market so you can
really attune yourself to what
is growing locally. We are
blessed to live in the Salad
Bowl of the world so be sure and
take advantage of all the
goodies right in our own back
yard.
At many different levels,
springtime is a new beginning.
In the spring, all of nature
renews, rises and expands.
Plants move upward, sprouting
and blossoming, and a feeling of
freshness flows through
everything. So why not extend
spring's fresh start to the way
we eat. Springtime is a time of
lightness and light is the KEY
to a spring cuisine. Be sure
to come to my class on March
28th, it is the perfect way to
learn how easy it is to prepare
some of these fresh, spring
foods. Check out all the
details here:
http://www.rawfoodchick.com/class.htm
The most tell-tale mark of
spring is the color green
and green is the perfect color
to celebrate on this St.
Patrick's Day. Try one of my
Green Recipes below for a
healthier St. Paddy's Day Treat.
May your
blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
For all of you,
May the Luck of the Irish be
with you today and always.
Be Well,
Nancy

Growing Good Luck
Want
to make your home a little more
green and enjoy th the luck of
the Irish? Why not try a couple
of these easy decorations. We
can all use a little good
luck.
Oxalis plants,
commonly called "shamrocks" at
this time of year, make vibrant
spring displays when planted
temporarily in glass pails. Hang
your little pots o' luck on door
handles or line them up along a
mantel shelf. For a
longer-living houseplant, oxalis
can be transplanted into
traditional pots with drainage
holes

Apple Green
For
an easy and effective
centerpiece, try stacking
pretty green apples in a
bowl.
If you have
more time, hollow out a few
apples to use as votive
candleholders, making sure
to coat all cut edges with
lemon juice.

Don't Get Pinched
Ireland is known
as the Emerald Isle. Green is
traditionally worn on St.
Patrick's day to honor the
Emerald Isle.
Tradition holds
that on that day, people who do
not wear green are pinched as a
reminder to wear green to honor
the Emerald Isle.
