Greetings!
Wow, another New Year is upon us. Are
you a resolution maker or breaker? The
New Year is the perfect time for a fresh
start but did you know that 4 out of 5
people who make resolutions break them?
In fact, one third of us won't even make
it until the end of January. Have you
done this? I know I certainly have.
The top resolutions
include drop excess weight, exercise,
get healthier, get organized, and spend
more time with family and friends.
Nearly 40 percent of us attribute
breaking our resolutions by having too
much to do, the rest of us say that we
just aren't dedicated to the resolutions
we set. But I think the real problem
is that people, myself included, just
make the wrong resolutions. We all tend
to make resolutions that are based on a
very general desire instead of focusing
on a specific goal.
Many people make broad resolutions, but
I suggest we focus on small goals so we
don't get overwhelmed. Small and
tangible one-day-at-a-time goals work
best.
Here are a few examples to help you get
started:
Want to eat healthier, don't try to
revamp your entire eating pattern
history overnight, just start with one
meal. Set the specific goal like:
I will eat healthy at least one
meal a day. Maybe try
breakfast, whatever meal works best for
you. It is easy to have a smoothie,
fresh fruit or juice to start your day.
Try one raw meal a week or a day,
whatever it takes to be successful. If
you do, Guess What???? You have kept
your resolution.
Once you have met that goal, you may be
so motivated that you will want to add
another healthy meal.
How about this? Start a meal with a
salad. Eating a salad first is a great
way to cut calories and get more raw
foods into your diet. In a study that
was conducted at Pennsylvania State
University, when a salad was eaten first
before a meal, the calorie content of
that meal was cut automatically by over
12 percent and the participants didn't
even have to think about it. How easy
is that???? One step closer in
fulfilling your resolution to eating
healthier.
Want to exercise more and spend
more time with loved ones? Play
with your kids or take a walk with your
partner or your pet. Even adding 1 day
a week will not only get you to move,
but you will be spending more time with
your loved ones. If you do this, you
have fulfilled 2 more of the top
resolutions.
You get the idea? Set small, easy
tangible goals and you will succeed.
And remember, if you slip up, don't give
up. Just get back on track the next day
and before you know it your resolutions
will become habits, and that is the real
goal.
Want more ideas like this? Attend my
class
Brand New Year, Brand New You.
Gina Renee and I will be teaming
up for this class and will give you lots
tips and information to make
2009 your best year ever, one small step
at at time.
I hope this coming year will be better
than all the others. Vow to do some of
the things you've always wanted to do
but couldn't find the time. Call up a
forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge,
and replace it with some pleasant
memories. Vow not to make a promise or
resolution you don't think you can keep.
Smile more. You'll look ten years
younger. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love
you'. They are the sweetest words in the
world.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Nancy
